Naofumi Iwatani sets out for the isolationist eastern kingdom of Q'ten Lo, determined to shield Raphtalia from its assassins. Along the way, he and his companions stop in Siltvelt, a land founded by a past shield hero, where Naofumi is treated as a deity and even offered the throne. Though he refuses the offer, wanting only to press on before the next catastrophic wave of monsters arrives, Naofumi gets dragged into Siltvelt's political conflicts. After surviving an assassination plot, he resolves to face the kingdom's leaders head-on-proving that their ancient rivalries and selfish schemes mean nothing next to his mission to save the world.
