Pica-Don

A documentary animation depicting the devastating aftermath of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. The blinding flash of the bomb, a hundred times brighter than the sun, is referred to as "PICA," followed by the immense shockwave known as "DON." When this film was made, it marked the world's first effort to address the sensitive topic of Hiroshima through animation. Inspired by this short film, the city of Hiroshima established the Hiroshima International Animation Festival in 1984, recognizing animation as a powerful medium for storytelling.
