Rugby is a sport where anyone can shine with the ball in their hands. The rules are straightforward: the player carrying the ball must make it to the opposing goalposts while evading the other team, who can use sheer force to stop them. Tackles don’t end the play-the ball can be passed backward or kicked before going down, keeping the game alive. Kenji Gion, a short but fiery high school freshman at Kanagawa High, meets the lanky and reserved Sumiaki Iwashimizu right after the school’s opening ceremony. The two receive an invitation to check out the rugby club. Watching a match, Gion notices that while size helps, there’s a place for players of all builds. Inspired, he joins on the spot, believing his height won’t hold him back. Iwashimizu refuses, but Gion won’t take no for an answer and pulls him into the team. Together, they throw themselves into grueling training, determined to reach Hanazono-the national high school rugby championship.
