In an alternate version of the 21st century, robotics technology advances rapidly across the globe. By 2050, Japan emerges as the dominant force in robotic manufacturing and innovation, led by Daiwa Heavy Industries. As the line between humans and machines blurs with the rise of robotic body enhancements, public opinion shifts dramatically. In 2067, the U.N. imposes a global ban on further robotics research. Despite Japan's strong opposition, the ban passes, prompting the country to withdraw from international affairs and isolate itself technologically. While limited trade continues, Japan vanishes from the global stage. A decade later, strange events suggest Japan may have secretly continued banned research using the RACE network. The American tech police agency SWORD sends a team of agents to investigate. Among them, veteran operative Vexille discovers the disturbing reality behind Japan’s decade of isolation.
