The Wind Rises

Though Jirou Horikoshi's poor eyesight keeps him from flying, he leaves home to study aeronautical engineering at Tokyo Imperial University with a single goal: to craft airplanes like his idol, the Italian aviation pioneer Giovanni Battista Caproni. His move to Tokyo coincides with the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, where he rescues a maid working for the family of a girl named Naoko Satomi. This catastrophe sets the stage for decades of upheaval and decline, culminating in Japan's defeat in World War II. His journeys and personal struggles only drive him forward-even as he grapples with the wartime purpose of his designs and the painful truths of his own life. As time passes, he faces an unbearable dilemma: how much is too much to sacrifice for his beautiful dream?
