Ninja Scroll

Jubei Kibagami drifts through feudal Japan as a wandering swordsman for hire. After a betrayal left him without a master, he wants nothing to do with the schemes of warring factions. But his past and politics collide when he rescues Kagero, a female ninja, from a man whose body can harden like stone. Kagero is the last survivor of her ninja clan and is still pursuing their final mission: uncovering the truth behind a strange plague that destroyed an entire village. Jubei tries to stay out of it, but the stone-skinned man's allies-a group of supernaturally gifted ninja called the Devils of Kimon-make that impossible. Things get worse when a government agent poisons Jubei, offering the antidote only if he uncovers the Devils of Kimon's real motives and their link to the plague. The investigation leads to hidden conspirators, a plot to topple the government, and a man Jubei never expected to meet again.
