Takashi Natsume has learned to live with the strange encounters brought on by the Book of Friends, a collection of contracts his grandmother Reiko made with youkai. Through these meetings, he slowly comes to understand the spirits, Reiko's past, and even himself. The Book of Friends holds power over youkai, making it a target for both spirits and exorcists. Natsume just wants a quiet life, but the book keeps pulling him into conflict.
