Subaru Mikazuki is a 23-year-old mystery writer who prefers books over people. Painfully shy and introverted, he has lived alone since his parents passed away in an accident years ago. His quiet, solitary life takes an unexpected turn when he meets Haru-a scruffy grey-and-white stray cat-while visiting his parents' grave. Though Subaru has never cared for anyone before, he brings Haru home. She’s thrilled with the endless food, a far cry from her tough life on the streets.
