A Dog of Flanders
Nello Tarth is a cheerful orphan living in poverty with his grandfather, Jehan, in a small village near Antwerp. Since childhood, Nello has loved drawing after seeing a painting by the famous artist Rubens. While helping Jehan deliver milk to Antwerp, he finds Patrash, a mistreated and abandoned work dog. Nello nurses the exhausted animal back to health, and the two soon form a strong bond. Alois Cojez, the daughter of the wealthiest and most powerful man in Blacken Village, is Nello’s closest friend. When Nello decides to pursue art, he faces the villagers’ scorn and cruelty-especially from Alois’s father, who sees him as a lazy dreamer unfit for a real livelihood. Despite the hardship and poverty, Nello refuses to give up, determined to prove his worth and earn their respect.
