Mobile Suit Gundam I

In the future, Earth's overpopulation has led humanity to build massive space colonies grouped into clusters called "Sides." As Earth's ruling class forces most people to live in space, resentment grows. In Universal Century 0079, one of these colonies, Side 3, declares itself the Principality of Zeon and starts a war for independence against the Earth Federation. Though vastly outmatched in resources, Zeon gains an early advantage by deploying giant humanoid war machines called mobile suits. Their most feared pilot is Char Aznable, a masked ace known as the "Red Comet." During a mission, Char's squad discovers the Federation secretly developing its own mobile suit-the Gundam-in Side 7. When Zeon attacks the colony, Amuro Ray, the son of the Gundam's designer, climbs into the machine and manages to fight them off. But as Amuro soon clashes directly with Char, he has no choice but to escape Side 7 aboard a Federation ship.
