The Story of Saiunkoku

The world of Saiunkoku is divided into eight provinces, each named after a color. The newly crowned Emperor, Shi Ryuuki, is known for neglecting his duties and openly favoring male companions. Shuurei, a woman from the prestigious but financially struggling Kou family, agrees to become his concubine in hopes of shaping him into a responsible ruler. She is accompanied by Seiran, a mysterious young man adopted by her father, who serves as Ryuuki's bodyguard. Once inside the palace, Shuurei rekindles her ambition to become a court official. With the help of newfound allies, she navigates the challenges of palace life while trying to keep the Emperor's romantic pursuits at bay.
