Richard Ranasinghe de Vulpian is a British jewelry appraiser with a sharp eye for gemstones, running a small shop in Japan. One night, a kind-hearted college student named Seigi Nakata rescues him from a group of drunks harassing him over his looks. When Seigi learns Richard’s profession, he asks him to evaluate a pink sapphire ring left by his late grandmother. Impressed by Seigi’s honesty, Richard takes him on as a part-time assistant.
