Patalliro! - S01

"Patarillo!" is set in a world similar to ours, with one key difference. Based on a popular manga for teenage Japanese girls, it features a cast with many gay men and attractive young men, or "bishounen." The story mostly unfolds in Marinera, a South Seas country known for its eternal spring and its vast diamond mines-the source of much of the series' conflict. The mines are owned by the boy-king Patarillo, who is short in stature but otherwise quite well-endowed. The International Diamond Syndicate, a powerful and shady organization aiming to control the world's diamond supply, will do anything to seize Patarillo's mine. Early on, they send bishounen assassins after him, forcing him to rely on his bodyguard: Major Jack Bancoran, an MI6 agent nicknamed "Bishounen-Killer." The name doesn’t mean he kills bishounen-rather, no boy under 17 can resist his charm, much to Bancoran’s annoyance, including Patarillo. The story shifts between Marinera, MI6’s futuristic London headquarters (which looks straight out of Fritz Lang’s "Metropolis"),and Bancoran’s lavish suburban home (reminiscent of Randolph Hearst’s estate). Oddly, London seems just a short flight from the South Seas. The action also jumps through time and even ventures into space, proving Patarillo gets around more than you’d expect.
