Meiji Gekken: 1874 - S01

Shizuma Origasa, a former samurai of the Aizu Domain, has been reduced to pulling a rickshaw in Tokyo after his homeland’s defeat by the imperial government. Struggling to survive, he also searches for his lost fiancée, Sumie Kanomata-the younger sister of his late friend Gennosuke, who made him swear to protect her. When Shizuma thwarts an assassination attempt, he joins the police force, hoping it will help him find Sumie. But his quest pulls him into a web of intrigue, where government loyalists, stubborn rebels, clever courtesans, interfering foreigners, and a shadowy yakuza named Kyoushirou Shuragami all have their own schemes.
