Photon Power, a super energy derived from Japanium ore, has caught the attention of Dr. Hell, a mad scientist bent on world domination. With his henchmen Baron Ashura and Count Brocken, he unleashes the Machine Beasts-unearthed from Bardos Island (thought to be ancient Rhodes)-to seize control of the Photon Power Lab. Standing in his way is Kouji Kabuto, a fiery young pilot who controls Mazinger Z, the mighty super robot built by his grandfather Juzo and forged from the nearly indestructible Chogokin Z alloy.
