Kiyo in Kyoto: From the Maiko House
Kiyo and Sumire left their home in Aomori Prefecture for Kyoto, both hoping to train as maiko. But when things don’t go as planned, Kiyo ends up working as the resident cook at the Maiko House instead. Their lives unfold in Kagai, Kyoto’s geiko and maiko district, alongside the other young women living there. While Kiyo supports them with her homemade meals, Sumire works hard to become the exceptional maiko everyone believes she can be.
