Kimba the White Lion - S02

"Jungle Emperor" was so popular in Japan that Dr. Tezuka created a sequel in 1966, titled "The New Jungle Emperor" or "Onward, Leo!" The problem for audiences outside Japan was that he produced the series without a deal with NBC and stayed closer to his original manga, which included character deaths and darker themes. NBC believed such a show wouldn't sell and were content with the original 52 episodes, so "The New Jungle Emperor" didn't reach other countries until 1984, when it was released as "Leo the Lion." This series was set a few years after the original "Kimba," with Kimba now an adult, mated to Kitty, and raising two cubs. The story focused mainly on their son, Rune, as he grew and strived to become as strong as his father. Due to legal issues, the English dub couldn't use the name "Kimba," so all characters kept their original Japanese names.
