Gankutsuou - S01
巌窟王 , The King of the Cavern
In the year 5053, two French aristocrats-Viscount Albert de Morcerf and Baron Franz d'Epinay-visit the lunar city of Luna for its Carnival festivities. While Franz is content with simple amusement, Albert longs for deeper meaning in his life. His search leads him to an encounter with the enigmatic Count of Monte Cristo, a self-made nobleman whose piercing gaze meets Albert’s during an opera. Though Albert befriends the Count and brings him into high society, the Count’s motives go beyond friendship. He schemes to exact revenge on those who betrayed him long ago. "Gankutsuou" traces the fates of Albert and the Count as their paths intertwine, exploring the heavy cost of vengeance.
