The story follows Haruka Nanase, a boy who has always felt most at home in the water. As a child, he swam in a tournament with his friends-Makoto Tachibana, Nagisa Hazuki, and Rin Matsuoka-before they parted ways after winning. Years later, during their quiet high school days, Rin suddenly reappears and challenges Haruka to a race, easily overpowering him. Determined not to let things stay that way, Haruka reunites with Makoto and Nagisa and recruits a new teammate, Rei Ryugazaki, to form the Iwatobi High School Swimming Club. Together, they aim to surpass Rin.
