Horiguchi Genki was a five-year-old boy whose mother died when he was born, leaving him to be raised solely by his father. His father, Shark Horiguchi, had once been a professional boxer but fell into obscurity, becoming a wandering fighter. Despite this, Genki admired his father, believing he was strong and would someday be a champion. Inspired by him, Genki dreamed of becoming a great boxer too. After his father’s death, Genki was taken in by his grandparents, who disapproved of boxing. Still, he refused to give up his dream and secretly kept training. Along the way, he met people who shaped his journey-like Teacher Ashikiwa, who reminded him of his mother, and Mishima, a high school boxing champion. Through these encounters, Genki steadily forged his path as a boxer.
