Dino Mech Gaiking - S01

Earth faces a new threat: the Zeraz aliens, whose home planet is being consumed by a black hole, plan to invade ours. Under the command of Great Darius and his four generals, they unleash destruction. After an ESP warrior is killed by the aliens, Professor Hi-Tech realizes the danger and constructs two powerful weapons-the massive dragon-shaped spaceship "Space Dragon" (Daiku Maryuu),piloted by Pete, and the giant robot Gaiking, controlled by Sanshiro Shiwobuki, a former baseball player. The Space Dragon serves as Gaiking's base; its head forms the robot's torso. In battle, the Space Dragon launches Gaiking's remaining components, then reconnects its neck and tail to become an unbreakable unit. The story follows the crew of the semi-transformable carrier Daiku Maryuu and their Super Mecha Gaiking as they fight the invading Zela aliens, whose doomed planet is collapsing into a black hole. In the English version, Sanshiro's name was changed to Aries Astonopolis, and the carrier was called the "Great Space Dragon," a direct translation of "Daiku Maryuu." Gaiking stood out as one of the few super robot series set in real-world locations outside Japan and the first to feature a mobile carrier for its main robot.
