Daphne in the Brilliant Blue - S01

In a future where rising sea levels have submerged most of the Earth, 15-year-old Maia Mizuki, an orphan who just finished middle school, applies to join the Ocean Agency-a prestigious paramilitary branch of the world government. Only the brightest and strongest students qualify, and Maia expects to be among them. But her plans unravel when she unexpectedly fails the entrance exam. Worse, she loses her home, gets robbed, taken hostage, and even shot. Two women, Rena and Shizuka, rescue her-though "rescue" might be too generous. They belong to Nereids, an unconventional help-for-hire group named after the sea nymphs of Greek myth. With no other options, Maia joins them, taking on odd jobs-from catching criminals to tracking down lost pets-with often unpredictable outcomes. Later, Gloria and Yu also become part of Nereids. The title’s "Daphne" refers to a subplot that emerges halfway through the series and grows increasingly significant to Maia. "Brilliant Blue" reflects the water-dominated world itself-endless oceans, scattered islands, and floating cities, with almost no dry land left.
