In 2035, an incident called "The Burst" takes place at a Japanese research facility, unleashing a fast-spreading, self-replicating substance known as "Matter." As it devours everything in its path, the hostile Matter winds through the ruins of dams and military sites in the Kurobe Gorge. Task forces struggle to contain it before it reaches the ocean, while mercenaries hunt for the truth behind its origins. Aiko Tachibana, rescued from the Matter, lives under constant medical watch. She passes the time during her recovery by folding paper planes. Her quiet school life is disrupted when transfer student Yuuya Kanzaki arrives and questions the oddities surrounding her-why she never gets hurt, why she no longer needs her wheelchair. He insists she’s more than she realizes and that she alone can stop The Burst.
