Pinocchio: The Series

"Mokku of the Oak Tree," also called "Mokku Woody the Oak Tree" or "Saban's Adventures of Pinocchio" in the U.S., is a 52-episode anime series produced by Tatsunoko Productions. It originally aired on Fuji Television in 1972 and is based on Carlo Collodi's novel "The Adventures of Pinocchio." Unlike the brighter, more upbeat Disney adaptation or Nippon Animation's "Piccolino no Bōken," this series takes a darker, more sadistic approach. It shows Pinocchio enduring relentless physical and psychological torment, along with bizarre and painful accidents.
