In Search of the Lost Future

Kaori Sasaki, a student at Uchihama Academy and a member of the Astronomy Club, confesses her feelings to Sou Akiyama. That same night, she dies in a car accident. Her friends and clubmates gather at the hospital, grieving her loss-yet the next day, Kaori arrives at school as if nothing happened, and no one seems to notice anything strange. The day passes normally, and the group makes plans for the upcoming cultural festival. Without warning, an unnatural earthquake shakes the room. Everyone scatters to investigate, leaving only Nagisa Hanamiya behind. As the others depart, Nagisa notices the odd, relic-like cube she had been fiddling with suddenly glowing blue. Elsewhere, Sou discovers an unconscious, naked girl lying in a pool of water.
