Hayate the Combat Butler
Hayate, a 16-year-old boy, has had a rough life. His irresponsible, jobless parents squander their money on gambling, forcing Hayate to work from a young age to support them. His hard upbringing has made him unusually strong, fast, and skilled in ways most boys aren’t-but it’s also landed him in deep trouble. His parents racked up massive gambling debts and sold him to the yakuza to pay them off with his organs. Desperate to escape this fate, Hayate tries to kidnap someone for ransom, but the girl he targets mistakes his attempt for a love confession. Instead, he ends up rescuing her from actual kidnappers. The girl, Nagi, turns out to be an extremely wealthy 13-year-old who hires him as her personal butler (and potential love interest) until he can repay his debt. Complications arise when Hayate finds himself drawn to Maria, Nagi’s stunning teenage maid. Meanwhile, Klaus, the head butler, isn’t thrilled about Hayate’s scruffy appearance. And then there’s Nagi’s pet, Tama, who’s far more formidable than she seems.
