By 2039, rising sea levels from global warming had swallowed vast stretches of land. Then, as if answering the crisis, a shadowy armada known as "the Fleet of Mist" emerged-warships shrouded in fog, appearing across the oceans to attack human vessels. Despite humanity's desperate resistance, the Fleet's sheer power crushed them. Trade routes were cut off, economies collapsed, and civilization withered under the onslaught. Seven years later, the Fleet's submarine I-401 surfaces before cadet Gunzo Chihaya. Its pilot, a humanoid being that should be his enemy, extends an unexpected offer: to fight alongside mankind.
