A Story of Tobacco

This is the oldest surviving film by Noburou Oofuji, blending paper cutout animation with live-action scenes. A young woman with a traditional Japanese hairstyle watches as a tiny man on a desk declares, "women descended from tobacco." She laughs and traps him under a glass. Furious, the man smokes a pipe and blows smoke at her. The girl takes his cigarette and tucks it under her book. When the man threatens her with a gun, she tosses the cigarette into the yard. Enraged, he tries to shoot her, but the gun fails. Finally, the man begins recounting the origins of tobacco to her.
